Wynne Government Shortchanging Elgin Residents on Physiotherapy Services

Queen’s Park- Today, Ontario PC Health Critic, Jeff Yurek, questioned the Wynne government on the closure of MobilityFit Physiotherapy in St. Thomas, Ontario.

One of two OHIP covered physiotherapy clinics serving the communities of St. Thomas and the County of Elgin is set to close. Both the Southwest Local Health Integration Network (SW LHIN) and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care have refused to act on the impending loss of service.

“When contacted for a status update both the SW LHIN and ministry responded with the same talking points,” said Yurek. “Neither would state whether or not the clinic is closing.”

The physiotherapy clinic has posted on Facebook and on there voicemail that the clinic is no longer taking on clients. This will leave only one clinic to serve a large population of residents in the City of St. Thomas and County of Elgin.

“If the government continues to ignore this issue, wait times will continue to climb and many will go without proper treatment,” said Yurek. “It’s unfair for this government and the SW LHIN to expect my constituents, especially those that have just undergone surgery to drive to London in search of treatment. They should not be treated as second class citizens,” Yurek concluded.
