Statement from Ontario PC Health Critic Jeff Yurek on the passing of Bill 41
The following is a statement from Ontario PC Health Critic Jeff Yurek on the passing of Bill 41:
“Today Bill 41, Patient’s First Act, 2016 passed third reading after limited consultation with health care professionals and patients.
“Bill 41 shifts power to the Ministry and grows our health care bureaucracy at the expense of funding for frontline patient care. The legislation also puts LHINs in charge of health care delivery despite their dismal record of performance. Bill 41 will do nothing to improve patient care.
“The Liberal government rushed this bill through the Legislature by limiting debate and the time for public delegations. Moreover, with over 90 amendments presented to committee, the government rejected all but one amendment from the opposition parties.
“It is unfortunate that the Wynne Liberals have squandered an opportunity to work with patients, doctors, nurses, pharmacists and all health care professionals to improve our health care system.
“Ultimately, patient-centred care cannot be achieved while the Liberals continue with cut after cut to health care services. Each cut this government makes means more time families and seniors wait to access much-needed care.”
