PC’s CALL ON LIBERAL’S TO DEAL WITH ENERGY CRISIS
(Queen’s Park) – This week, Ontario PC Leader Patrick Brown and the Ontario PC Caucus demanded that Kathleen Wynne’s Liberal Government stop further electricity rate increases, during an Opposition Day debate in the Ontario Legislature.
“Ontario is in an energy crisis,” Mr. Brown stated during the debate. “Families are hurting; businesses are hurting.”
MPP Jeff Yurek shared a story of a small business in his riding earlier that day during question period and the drastic increases they have seen in their electricity bill. “A small business in my riding has seen their hydro bill go from $1,300 a month to $3,000 a month, $2,000 of their bill is from global adjustment and delivery charge fees alone.” stated Yurek.
“Can the Premier explain to small businesses how they can continue to afford these sky high global adjustment delivery fee charges” continued MPP Jeff Yurek.
“This is one of 1000’s of stories that I have heard from individuals and businesses throughout my riding. This government has continued to dole out costly energy contracts to Liberal donors which has created our current energy crisis and forced many families and businesses to make tough decisions because they can no longer afford their energy bills”
The PC’s are calling on the government to stop the fire sale of Hydro One, stop signing energy contracts Ontario doesn’t need, restore municipal decision making authority and to stop selling surplus energy at a loss.
The Liberals and NDP both voted to defeat the PC motion, by a vote of 58 to 24.
