Yurek coordinates meeting with Assistant Deputy Minister of Transportation regarding Glanworth Bridge
ST. THOMAS – MPP Yurek has arranged for members of “Save Glanworth Drive” committee to meet with the Assistant Deputy Minister for provincial highways on Monday, August 10, 2015 to discuss their concerns regarding the possible removal of Glanworth Bridge in the redesign of Highway 401 & 4 (Colonel Talbot Road) Interchange Improvement project. Joining the group of local farmers and businesses will be Don McCabe, the president of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture.
“The ministry has continued to plow ahead with its agenda and ignore the concerns of local farmers and businesses. I am hopeful that this meeting will push the ministry to incorporate the solutions put forward by this group that improve safety” said MPP Yurek
The local committee has been tirelessly working with ministry officials to develop a design option that is cost-effective while ensuring the safety of all motorists for a few years. Over the past few months the group has garnered tremendous support from the local community at large, many of the surrounding municipalities, local businesses, insurance companies, the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, Bonduelle Group, and the Elgin Federation of Agriculture just to name a few.
“I believe that with proper consultation we can ensure that the re-design of this underpass accommodates the needs of all stakeholders while keeping our roads safe. I am hopeful that the Assistant Deputy Minister will recognize the importance of this issue and ensure that the final design incorporates the needs of the agricultural community” stated Yurek.
