Provincial Deficit Continues to Rise

QUEEN’S PARK – Today the Minister of Finance announced in a speech to the Toronto Region Board of Trades that the province’s deficit is $10.9 billion.  The deficit has continued to rise under the Liberal Government going from $9.2billion two years ago to $10.5 billion last year and $10.9billion this year.

“It is clear that this government does not have a plan to balance the budget.  Ontario continues to go further and further into debt under the leadership of this government” stated MPP Yurek.

In the Auditor General’s last report she warned that if this government continued to ignore the provincial budget it will result in “crowding out” of essential services.

“In my riding alone these cuts are already being felt.  Currently we have an orthopedic department that is giving up OR time because the ministry has failed to provide them with sustainable funding to perform joint replacement surgeries creating longer than needed wait times. In addition to this many families services through the CCAC are being drastically reduced.  The list goes on and on” said MPP Yurek.

“The Liberal government is trying to balance the budget on the backs of Ontarians.  Expert after expert has stated that the Liberal’s must change their course however, they continue to ignore that they have a spending problem” stated Yurek
