Ryan’s Law Passes Second Reading

Ryan’s Law Passes Second Reading

“I want to take this opportunity to thank all MPPs, stakeholder groups including the Ontario Lung Association and of course Sandra Gibbons and her family for all their help in passing Ryan’s Law through second reading this afternoon.

Last session, I introduced Ryan’s Law for the first time however; it failed to proceed through committee deliberation in April due to minor concerns raised over some of the language in the bill.  Before reintroducing Ryan’s Law in July I made a few amendment changes that would clarify these aspects of the bill.  It is my hope, that with these amendments made, Ryan’s Law will be enacted into law as quickly as possible.

I also want to take this opportunity to give special acknowledgement and thanks to Sandra Gibbons for her incredible courage and advocacy in bringing her story forward after her son Ryan tragically passed away.

I am looking forward to getting this bill through committee and enacted into law.  We owe it to our children to ensure that the one in five asthmatic children in Ontario can attend asthma-friendly schools.”
