Yurek Launches Website in Support of Ryan’s Law

ST THOMAS – Today, MPP Jeff Yurek is a launching new website in support of his private members bill Ryan’s Law. The website can be found at www.passryanslaw.com.

Ryan’s Law was originally introduced to the Ontario legislature in November of 2013. It passed second reading on December 5 and went through two days of committee deliberations in April. Unfortunately, the bill failed was stalled at committee and was not passed before the spring election. Yurek reintroduced the bill this July and it will return to the Legislature for second reading on October 23.

“I think ensuring the safety of children with asthma is an important issue,” said MPP Yurek. “I’ve made a commitment to get this bill passed and the website we’re launching today is another way to raise awareness of the issue and allow people who support the Pass Ryans Law Websitebill to voice their support.”

The website provides an overview of the bill, a timeline of key developments in the bill’s history, and media coverage it has received to date. It has a petition that Yurek encourages everyone to sign and allows people to share the website with their friends and acquaintances.

“My hope is that this website offers a portal through which people can get involved and let all legislators at Queen’s Park know that Ryan’s Law is a priority for them and that it should move through the legislative process as quickly as possible,” said Yurek.

Yurek also noted that following committee deliberations, he amended the bill to reflect concerns raised over some of its language. He says this should make it less contentious and easier for lawmakers to get on board with.
