Yurek Working to Move Senior’s Driver Licence Renewal Sessions to St. Thomas

ST THOMAS – Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP Jeff Yurek is calling on all senior’s wishing to see the Ministry of Transportation conduct Seniors Driver Licence Renewal Program mandated group educational sessions and written tests in St. Thomas to contact his office to let him know.

“This has come as a result of talks I have had with seniors in the area,” said MPP Yurek. “Many of them use their vehicles infrequently for relatively short drives. As a result, travelling all the way to London can be a stressful experience.  Having Ministry-conducted sessions in St. Thomas would reduce that stress and better align Ministry activities with how seniors use their vehicles.”

Yurek says that he has discussed the issue with MTO officials who have stated they are open to conducting sessions in St. Thomas if there was visible need for the service.

“From my discussion with constituents, it is clear to me there is a need,” said Yurek. “It is my hope now to get some concrete feedback that I can take to the Ministry to ensure this initiative moves forward.”

While the details of the arrangement remain hypothetical at this point, it would like involve current MTO employees traveling to St. Thomas for a few sessions each week.
