(Queen’s Park, Toronto) – Today at a Queen’s Park rally sponsored by the PC Education Critic Lisa Macleod and hosted by the Independent School Bus Operators Association, MPP Jeff Yurek called on the Liberal government to release the Coulter Osborne Report.
The Honourable Coulter Osborne – who served with distinction as a judge of the Supreme Court of Ontario – was tasked with examining student transportation in order to advise on efficiencies and best practices. The Ministry of Education has not publically released the document despite having it for weeks.
The refusal to release the report has sparked much speculation. “I’m interested to see what the report says,” said MPP Jeff Yurek, “they’ve (the Liberals) have had this document for over a month but have withheld it. Why would they withhold a report that reportedly offers ways to reform school transportation to achieve increased efficiencies?”
In question period last week, MPP Lisa MacLeod questioned the Minister of Education Laurel Broten on the matter. MacLeod questioned Broten on whether the Coulter Osborne Report conflicted with the Drummond Report and that this is the reason for the report being withheld. Minister Broten did not comment on whether this is the case.
“Until we’ve seen what the Honourable Osborne has suggested, we need the government to extend the moratorium on the current RFP process that is running operators out of business,” said Yurek, “We have a respected expert that has completed a report with ways to improve the student transportation process and we owe it to all those small school bus operators to have a public discussion on this issue: but we can’t do that without the report.”
